Through November 30th, 2018
Does your family have an emergency evacuation plan in case of a disaster this hurricane season? The Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) encourages everyone to take precautions during Hurricane season. Hurricane season is from June 1st through November 30th.
CEMA suggests three essential reinforcements for each family to have in place in case of severe weather:
- Evacuation Plan: There is very little time to prepare when given an evacuation order. In stead of getting stuck at the last minute, take the time to discuss with your family where you will evacuate to, where you will stay, and the quickest route to get there. During an evacuation, Chatham County provides a ride for anyone in need. The Evacuation Assembly Area at the Savannah Civic Center can help you evacuate to safety. - Emergency Kit: In order to be prepared for any kind of severe weather or evacuation order. Ensure that your family has established an Emergency Kit tailored to your family’s specific needs and should contain enough supplies to last at least a week. CEMA offer’s a list of items to include in your emergency kit and more information at http://www.chathamemergency.org/news/five-gallon-emergency-kit-chec.php
- Communications Plan: During a disaster, it is unsure to determine how reliable modern technology such as cell phones and computers will be. During your meeting with your family, create a map and designate a specific meeting place. CEMA recommends to compose a printed list o important phone numbers to distribute to the entire family in case of disaster. It is also recommended by CEMA to stay updated on updates and emergency notifications during the event. It is critical to know information during and after an emergency event.
