UNITED WAY 16TH ANNUAL TURKEY TROT

Join United Way of the Coastal Empire on Thanksgiving morning at Daffin Park for its 16th Annual Turkey Trot! Come as you are or in a Thanksgiving-themed costume. 8am Kids K (.62 miles, ages 10 and under). 815am Diaper Dash (40 yards, ages 3 and under). 830am 4 mile Run/Walk. Participants are invited to a post-race awards ceremony, which includes food and beverages. No rollerblades. Pets are permitted only with participants. Packet Pickup Wednesday, November 27th 10am-4pm at Fleet Feet Sports, 3405 Waters Ave OR on race day at Daffin Park. NATIONAL ADOPT A SENIOR PET MONTH

November is National Adopt a Senior Pet Month! Visit a local shelter and see for yourself how much senior pets have to offer. During the Holiday Season, while we always make sure family & friends are invited for a holiday meal, there are many senior rescues who would also love to join in with your festivities. Give them the loving home they have been dreaming of. Many animal shelters are non-profit, which means they depend on donations and grants to stay open. VOLUNTEERS FOR MEALS ON WHEELS NEEDED

Meals on Wheels is looking for volunteers. One hour a week is all it takes. You can make a difference delivering meals to homebound seniors in the Savannah area. Training is included. Volunteers use their own vehicles, a gas stipend is optional. There are over 500 seniors on the waiting list and the number continues to grow.

THE ISLANDS FARMERS MARKET

The Islands Farmers Market is open each Saturday from 9a to 12p at the Lighthouse Baptist Church, 401 Quarterman Drive.

Pets are welcome. Local honey, eggs, meat, bread, veggies, poultry, soaps, jewelry, candles, wreathes and so much more!

TLC CONNECTION LUNCHEON

The Tourism Leadership Council’s November Luncheon is Thursday, November 21st at th Hyatt Regency Savannah. 11:30am to 1pm. 2 West Bay Street. This month’s keynote is TLC’s own Michael T. Owens. FORT PULASKI CANDLE LANTERN TOURS

Celebrate the Holiday Season with a night-time tour of Fort Pulaski by candlelight and oil lamps. The tours will take place on Friday, December 13th and Saturday, December 14th every half hour starting at 6pm, the last tour each evening will begin at 9pm. $10 per adult, 16 years & above. Children 15 years old and under are $1 (reservations must be made for children). Park passes will not be accepted. SCWA NOVEMBER MEETING

The Savannah Council on World Affairs will host its monthly meeting Monday, November 18th at 730pm at the Coastal Georgia Center. 7:30PM, 305 Fahm Street. Guest Speaker, Madelyn Creedon, Former Principal Deputy Administator of the US Energy Department’s National Nuclear Security Administration, Former Assistant Secretary of Defense for global strategic affairs, and Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution.  Guest program fee will be $10. 2024 LANNY FINCH SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

The Georgia Association of Broadcasters is accepting nominations for the 2024 Lanny Finch Scholarship. Up to five $1500 scholarships are awarded each year. Applicants must be registered as a full time student at a fully accredited college or university, a rising junior or senior studying for a degree in some aspect of the broadcasting industry and a bona fide resident of the state of Georgia. The deadline is Monday, November 18th.
